Roanoke defeated Averett 3-1 to earn a split

The Lead: After falling 27-25 in the opening set, Roanoke swept the next three frames to take the match over the Cougars, 3-1.
How it Happened:
- The Maroons were one point away from taking the opener, but three consecutive Averett points gave the first set to the home team.
- With a 4-2 lead, Kennedy Clemmer took the ball to serve and Roanoke scored seven straight to even the match at a set a piece.
- With the score tied at 16-16 in the third, Roanoke would end the set on a 9-5 run, six points coming via the kill.
- Parker Moody and Bridgette Whalen combined for two blocks while Linsey Bailey recorded six kills in a decisive fourth set win.
- Bailey finished with 16 kills and Telia Harris added 11 kills and five assisted blocks.
- Logan Pasley assisted on 21 points while serving two of Roanoke's 12 aces.

The Lead: Playing their fourth match in less than 24 hours, Roanoke couldn't hold off a rested Pacer team that enjoyed a 48-35 advantage in kills.
How it happened:
- Roanoke used the momentum of their earlier win to start the match taking four of the first five points. However, William Peace closed with a fury, 11-2 run, to come back and take the set.
- As fatigue started to set in, the Pacers controlled the next two sets to take the match with a hitting percentage of .283
- Moody paced the Roanoke attack with 12 kills with Harris adding eight
- Pasley combined with Avery Wolff and Olivia Newman to assist on 32 of the team's 35 kills.
Up next: Roanoke will host 10 other schools at the 2019 Marron Classic beginning next Friday. Raonoke will play Mary Baldwin at 4pm in their tournament opener.
