Roanoke Earns Split In ODAC Tri-Match

The Basics:

Score: Roanoke 1 | Univ. of Lynchburg 3 (25-21, 19-25, 14-25, 24-26)
Records: Maroons 7-8, 1-3 | Hornets 9-5, 1-2 
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons took the opening set, but the Hornets rallied to take sets two and three. The fourth set would be tied before the Hornets took the final two points to pull off the come from behind win.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke used a big advantage at the net (15-6 kill advantage) to pull away late in the first set.
  • The Hornets would reverse the tide and out-hit Roanoke 26-20 in the next two frames to seize control of the match.
  • The fourth set would see the home team race out to an advantage. However, Lynchburg would go on an 8-2 run to take control at the midway mark of the set. 
  • After the Maroons took the lead, 19-17, six straight from the visitors would put Roanoke on the brink of defeat. Once again the Maroons mounted a rally to tie the set at 24-24. A Roanoke attack error and kill by Lynchburg's Disa Haugsdahl would end any hopes of a fifth set.
  • Linsey Bailey posted a match high 26 kills with Parker Moody adding 11. 
  • Bailey would register 20 digs while Kennedy Clemmer had a match high with 30.
  • Logan Pasley had 24 assists with Olivia Newman adding 14 helpers.

The Basics:

Score: Roanoke 3 | Eastern Mennonite 0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-22)
Records: Maroons 8-8, 2-3 | Royals 8-7, 1-4 
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke dominated the net with a 45-27 kill advantage to pull away from Eastern Mennonite for the 3-0 sweep.

How it Happened:

  • 18-6 was the kill edge for a Maroons squad that opened a 10-5 lead and pulled away for the first set victory.
  • The second frame was a carbon copy of the opener as Roanoke enjoyed a 2-0 advantage.
  • The third, and ultimately, final set would see Roanoke enjoy a 4-1 start. However, the Royals went on a run and led 16-10 as Roanoke would take a timeout. After the break, the Maroons stormed back to tie the match at 19-19. An Eastern Mennonite timeout couldn't stop the run as the Maroons closed out the afternoon on a 6-3 run to earn the sweep.
  • Bailey once again led the way with 17 kills. 
  • Moody had a stellar match with 14 kills on just 19 attacks without a single error, hitting .737.
  • Pasley had a match high 23 assists with Clemmer (25) and Tori Clinevell (18) leading the way on the back line.
