The Lead: After going 3-1 at the 2021 Maroon Classic, the Roanoke College volleyball team traveled to Pfeiffer for a match on Tuesday night. The Falcons took the first set and then with the score tied at 27-27, Pfeiffer was able to take the last two points for a 2-0 advantage. Roanoke took the third frame but fell, 22-25, in the fourth set.

Highlights:

  • The home team used an 11-1 run to take control of the opening set as Roanoke was never able to sustain any sort of momentum and fell, 15-25 in the opening frame.
  • Kills by Parker Moody, Linsey Bailey, and Peyton Kirchner coupled with a Bailey service ace would see Roanoke race out to a 5-1 lead in the second stanza. However, the Falcons would rally and take a late lead. Back-to-back Bailey kills would make it 26-25 but Pfeiffer would take four of the next five points and a 2-0 edge.
  • The third set would be close before an attack error and Kylee Draper service ace sparked a 6-0 Roanoke run to seize control on their way to taking the set, 25-19.
  • The Maroons trailed 22-19 before a Kirchner kill and Olivia Newman ace allowed Roanoke to tie the set at 22-22. A pair of Falcon kills and a Roanoke miscue would allow Pfeiffer to close out the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.
  • Bailey and Kirchner combined for 28 of RC's 46 kills. Newman handed out a team high 26 assists while Bailey served five aces. Kennedy Clemmer registered a team high 11 digs.

Up next: Roanoke will return to the court at the Cregger Center on Thursday night for a 6:30 visit from Southern Virginia.
