Chris Martin Named Roanoke College Female Athlete of the Year

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College Athletics has announced that women's soccer standout Chris Martin has been named the 2019-20 Roanoke College Female Athlete of the Year.

A First-Team All-ODAC selection and a Second-Team All-South Atlantic Region choice by the United Soccer Coaches, the senior from Blacksburg was honored as the top keeper in the conference, finishing her final collegiate season by recording 75 saves and an ODAC leading .862 save percentage. She earned 13 wins, second in the conference, and was in goal for all or part of the Maroon's 10 shutouts during the year. 

"Chris has an unparalleled competitiveness and desire to improve inherent in all top athletes," said Head Coach Phil Benne. "It led her to be the top goalkeeper in the ODAC, State of Virginia, and the South Atlantic Region." 

Martin was a three-time First-Team All-ODAC selection and a two-time All-Region pick. In addition, she was named to the VaSID All-State team three times, earning two first-team nods.

Martin finished a 0.71 goals against average and she made 294 career saves. Her goals against average ranks as second all-time in school history, while her saves are fourth most in the RC record books. She finished with a career save-percentage of .867 which is third-best in RC history.
