Michael Buurman has been the Head Athletic Trainer and Approved Clinical Instructor at Roanoke College over the last 15 years. During that time, he has assisted in daily operations in the athletic training room in addition to providing athletic training coverage to Roanoke athletic teams and has conducted open clinics.

Prior to Roanoke, Buurman worked at St. Andrews Presbyterian College for one athletic season as the Assistant Athletic Trainer (2002-03). While he was there he assisted in the daily operation of the athletic training room, provided athletic training coverage, filed insurance claims, and worked to budget and order needed supplies.

From 2000-02, Buurman worked at Furman University's Sports Medicine Center as a Graduate Assistant. While at Furman, he provided athletic training coverage to seven athletic programs. He also taught a semester of sports medicine class at Enoree Career and Technology Center for local high school students.

Buurman received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Elon College in 2000. He received his Master of Arts in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University in 2002. In April 2001, Buurman became a Certified Examiner for the Athletic Trainers' Board of Certification. Since 1997, he has been a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. He is also certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Michael has many interests that include cooking and grilling, his dog Chili, remodeling his home, mountain biking and traveling.
