Maroon Club Testimonials

Gerrie

Thanks to generous donations by our Maroon Club members, we are able to perform at the highest level both on the field and in the classroom. Maroon Club’s support of the men’s lacrosse team helped us win both the regular season and conference tournament championship in the ODAC. We were able to advance to the NCAA Tournament and host two home games at Kerr Stadium and received tremendous support. I am very thankful for the Maroon Club contributions that made my experience and that of all RC Student-Athletes so incredible.”

- Brayden Gerrie '13, Men's Lacrosse

“Donations made to the Maroon Club provide meaningful experiences for all of Roanoke College’s student-athletes. This generosity has helped me to enjoy my experiences on road trips such as Baltimore and Las Vegas. Your support helped create such a positive impact on our team and all of our programs at Roanoke College.

Thank You, Maroon Club members— your continued support is key to our success!”

“The Maroon Club provided many opportunities this year for our alums, parents and current players to come together and celebrate Roanoke College Volleyball. We were able to hold social events after senior night and our Maroon Classic Tournament. These events made our current parents and players feel welcome and true members of the Roanoke College community. Our Front Rush recruiting program was purchased using funds from the Maroon Club. Not only does this program help with recruiting talented student athletes, it also provides a way for our program to communicate effectively with our alums. The ability to send quick updates and e-mail our alumni when we are playing matches in their vicinity, allowed for a broader fan base at our matches. The Maroon Club was extremely successful in launching our first ever Alumni Match during alumni weekend. Our alumni have already started talking about next year's match and those that could not attend have already began to plan on attending next year.”

“The Maroon Club is generating needed funds to ensure our student-athletes are provided resources to ensure a quality experience. That is a given. But an incredible by-product of the Maroon Club, is that it is generating enthusiasm. It is providing gatherings for alumni & friends at events such as the 100 Years of RC Hoops Celebration and the “Alumni Games.” On many occasions, it allows our alums to meet our student-athletes following the games with post-game receptions. Allowing all to be reminded, Roanoke’s greatest strength is the quality of our people.”

“The Maroon Club and our T&F program enjoyed a successful day on the track at the Roanoke College Invitational on March 17. The Maroon Club made the day more special as parents, athletes, alumni and friends numbering over 80 feasted on a variety of food and drinks to celebrate the donation of the first-ever RC T&F Outdoor Records Board at Bast Track! We were also able to resurface our track facility and make it one of the best surfaces in the south region thanks to the donations of our proud Maroon Club members!”

“The Maroon Club was instrumental in bringing many more alumni to our regular season games. It  acknowledged them and presented them with reminders of Roanoke College basketball. Our players and coaching staff had an opportunity to meet and have pictures taken with them. In essence, The Maroon Club was helping to reunite our past with our present. These gatherings also brought parents, husbands and families back to campus. It was also responsible for having one of the most successful alumni weekends for women’s and men’s basketball since I have been here (32 yrs.). The majority of the grads had nothing but praise for what the Maroon Club was able to do and is still doing. Throughout the year, the Maroon Club updated the alumni base; using some of the athletes to call and thank them for their contributions;  The Maroon Club worked diligently with others on campus to help make the Club visible. Besides monetarily, the Maroon Club can develop pride, school spirit, energy and chemistry—and memories that will encourage our alums to want to return and give back. I feel like our Maroon Club has helped to reunite our alums by making them feel appreciated through the contact and extra work to get them back on campus.”
