SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated Southern Virginia 6-2 and 5-4 on Saturday and 7-0 Sunday to complete a three-game series sweep at Kiwanis Field. The win puts the Maroons back at .500 with a 6-6 mark. The Mountaineers are now 0-3 on the young season.
In the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Roanoke scored four runs in the third inning and took a 5-0 lead after five innings of play and held on for the 6-2 victory.

Roanoke got a scare in the final Mountaineers at bat but held on for a 5-4 win in the twin bill. The Maroons collected nine hits and scored in all but two innings to claim the doubleheader.
RC scored in the first three innings to take an early 4-0 lead. Robbie Scott's RBI-double brought home Lipes and Manthe in the Maroons first at bat to take a two-run advantage. In the second, Conner was brought home by a sacrifice fly from Clifton to make it, 3-0.
After a Roanoke run in the third, SVU got two runs on the board in the fifth to cut its deficit in half, 4-2. Scott delivered again in the Maroons final at bat as he brought home Clifton for a much-needed insurance run to go up three heading into the final inning.
It appeared the wheels would come off for Roanoke in the top of the seventh after a walk, hit batter and a balk call advanced both runners in scoring position with no outs. Jacob McMillian came in relief and got out of the jam for his first save of the season.
Scott finished 3-for-4 with three RBI as six other Maroons collected a hit in game two. Tyler Grouten (1-1) earned the win, going 4.2 innings while striking out four batters and allowed two runs.
In the final game of the weekend, Roanoke went out on top in style with a shutout victory, 7-0 over the Mountaineers to win their fourth-straight, which ties a school-record.
The Maroons broke the game open with a six-run second inning en route to their sixth win of the season. RC tacked on another run in the fourth off a homer to left by Clifton to give the final result.
Clifton went 3-for-5 with two doubles in addition to his solo home run. He brought home three runs and scored twice. Conner had an two-RBI single and scored once.
Mark Wimmer (2-0) earned the win for Roanoke, striking out four and allowed two hits. John Terlesky went four innings in relief and struck out nine and scattered three hits.
