The Lead: Averett used multiple rallies throughout the game to slip past Roanoke and win 7-4.
How it Happened:
- Averett got the action started in its half of the second inning by scoring two runs.
- In the top of the fifth inning the Cougars added three more runs to give them the 5-0 lead.
- Roanoke would respond in the bottom of the fifth after Dean Hermanson walked to start off the inning. Anthony Teixeira singled later in the inning to give RC runners on first and second with one out.
- In the next at bat Sean Guida extended his hit streak to 10 with a two-RBI triple and Will Decker would hit Guida in to make the score 5-3 Averett.
- In the next half inning, Averett was able to string together three hits to push across two runs to make the score 7-3 in the Cougar's favor.
- Roanoke scored one more run to close the gap in the bottom of the sixth inning after Drew Mikula scored off of a ground ball that resulted in a fielder's choice hit by Teixeira.
- RC scratched across one more run in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short and lost 7-5.
- Offensively, Guida led the Maroons going 2-for-5 with two triples and two RBI. Decker went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI while Mikula also picked up two hits on the night.
