The Lead: Roanoke fell 3-1 to Lynchburg Wednesday evening on the road. 

How it Happened:

  • Lynchburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead following a pair of goals from Nikki Simpao at the 15 minute and the 29 minute marks.
  • Lauren Heffron and Alexis Lester fired off shots at 19:44 and 20:22 but goalie Laurel Nicks made two saves, allowing Lynchburg to take the 2-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Roanoke got on the board as Emilee Wooten played a ball through two defenders and found the back of the cage, off a pass from Megan Diehl to close the gap to 2-1 with 29 minutes left in regulation.
  • The Hornets extended their lead with a goal from Brittany Claybaugh at 56:11 to make it a 3-1 game.
  • Emma Clark made 10 saves in goal for Roanoke and Nicks made five for Lynchburg.
