RC Golfers Earn A Top 5 At Lynchburg

The Basics:

Event: 2020 Hill City Invitational hosted by University of Lynchburg

Place: 5th of 10 teams  

Results: Maroons 321 and 329 Total 650
Location: Lynchburg, Va. (Boonsboro Country Club)

The Lead: On a tough scoring day, the RC golf team was able to earn a top five finish after the two day, 36 hole, Hill City Invitational

How it Happened:

  • Methodist won the team event by five strokes over Averett University with the host Hornets of Lynchburg finishing third.
  • On a day with only 12 of the 53 golfer field braking 80, junior Evan Diebus posted an 80 and with his round finished 15th in the individual field.
  • Senior Nicholas Peters posted a total of 162, landing in a tie for 17th overall.
  • After firing an opening round 79, freshman Will Clary wrapped up the event with a total of 163, just missing a top 20 finish.
  • Fellow freshmen Cameron Dillon and Patrick Hurdle tied for 23rd, giving the Maroons all five players in the top 25, one of only three schools with their entire team in the top 25.
  • RC finished second of the five ODAC schools' competing in the tournament, besting Emory & Henry by 19, Randolph-Macon by 20, and Eastern Mennonite by 55 strokes.    

Up next: Roanoke will travel to Jekyll Island, Georgia next week to compete in the 30 team field at the 2020 Jekyll Island Collegiate. The, three-day, event is one of the most prestigious DIII tournaments in the country.
