Mason began working with the lacrosse team as a volunteer assistant after graduation. Mason was a two-time USILA All-American selection for the Maroons (1990-91), Mason is third on Roanoke’s all-time saves list. 
 
As an assistant coach for the Maroons, Mason, who has worked Bill Pilat’s the Goalie School for many summers, focuses all of his attention on the Maroon goalies.  He coached Jake Dorsey all four years (2007-10) as Dorsey joined Mason, Bill Pilat, and Matt Madalon among the top-five goalies in career saves and wins.
 
After graduating from Roanoke in 1991, Mason began his career in creative media.  He spent over a decade as a sportscaster on WDBJ-7, a CBS affiliate in Roanoke, while also honing his director of photography skills. He left the station in 2003 to become a director/camera operator for Red Velocity. 
 
He is married to Melissa Mason and they have three children. Zach, Abby, and Joseph.
