Men's Soccer Alumni Q&A - Conover

ROANOKE MEN'S SOCCER ALUMNI QUESTION & ANSWER

CHRIS CONOVER '13

Where are you originally from?

Bethany Beach, Delaware

Why did you choose to attend Roanoke College?

I chose to visit Roanoke College after getting recruited prior to the Delaware Senior All-Star soccer game. Originally I had planned to go to College of Charleston and join the fraternity my brother was in at CofC. However, after visiting Roanoke College I fell in love with the campus, how close-knit the team was, and the winning legacy that had been built.

Where are you now/what are you doing?

After graduating from Roanoke College I attended Towson University and completed my Master's in Business Administration. After completing my masters, I moved back home to the beach and currently am the Director of Operations for our family company that provides full-service disaster relief (demolition and repairs).

Last time you touched a soccer ball/where?

The last time I touched a soccer ball was last night. I play in multiple indoor men's leagues currently and continue to try to play as much as possible.

Highlight/favorite soccer memory from your time at Roanoke?

Favorite soccer memory from Roanoke is hands down winning the ODAC championship my senior year in double OT against Virginia Wesleyan and having the crowd and team go crazy after AJ Tierce scored the game-winning goal with time expiring.

When is the last time you were back on campus? Do you get back often?

The last time I was back on campus was 2016 for Alumni Weekend. It being a solid 6 and a half hour drive, it is tough to get down there. I am eager to get down to see the new facilities at the Cregger Center though.

Favorite non-soccer memory from your time at Roanoke?

My favorite non-soccer memory would be taking my May Term down in the Abacos Islands of the Bahamas my junior year with a couple of soccer buddies. We got certified in scuba diving and dove for a week and then went to another island and learned to sail for a week. The funny thing was there was no wind to sail so we turned on the little engine on the sailboat and putted around the Bahamas for a week.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In ten years I see myself taking over the family company and continuing to serve our community to help people during times of disaster.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would have to be in relation to our family company that I work for. Since joining the company and taking on the role of Director of Operations in November of 2016. With a great team and my father as my advisor, we have been able to more than triple our revenue and size since Nov. 2016.

What advice do you have for the current Maroons about life after college?

My advice for Maroons after college would be to be yourself and form as many relationships as you can right from the start after college (also in college). Relationships are endless and can create success in the most unexpected ways. Whether It be 1 year after college or 20 years after college, how you interact with others and those relationships, can be a stronger tool than any other when achieving your goals. Also, anyone looking to go into the business school at Roanoke, the Business Policy class you have to take your senior year is hands down the most educational and influential class I ever took including through grad school.
