RC Hosts the 2020 ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

The Basics
Event: 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Location: Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse, Salem Va.

The Lead: Roanoke College played host to the 2020 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The RC women finished 3rd while the men earned a 6th place finish in the final standings.

Women's Highlights:

  • The first event of the meet, the Distance Medley would see the quartet of Lauren Brown, Lauren Henson, Hailey Draper, and Emma Maras picked up 4th place points with a final time of 13:41.50, less than 45 seconds off the winning time.
  • Jayna Jean-Jules put a cap on a strong season in the Weight Throw with a winning distance of 15.51 meters, 1.5 meters further than any other competitor in the field.
  • The 60 Meter Hurdles would see Hannah Snodgrass earn 8th place points with a time of 10.19.
  • A trio of Maroons picked up points in the 60 Meters. Senior Claire Aurand just missed her personal best when she blazed a time of 7.93 for a runner-up finish. Alison Moreau also cracked the eight second mark with a 3rd place finish in 7.97 while Spencer Mann crossed the line 6th (8.15).
  • RC repeated the feat of three in the top 10 in the 400 Meters with Lily Lippert securing 3rd in 1:01.21, ahead of teammates Emily Ball (6th) and Eliza Ryan (9th).
  • Hannah Koepfinger earned 3rd place points in the 800 Meters, posting a time of 2:39.70.
  • The 200 Meters would be a huge point event for RC. Aurand once again finished 2nd with a time of 26.42, just .34 behind the winner. Moreau was 3rd in 26.45, Lippert earned 5th in 27.20, just .10 ahead of Mann while Lindsey Baxter scored 8th place points (27.38).
  • The final track event, the 4x400 Relay, would see Ball, Lippert, Ryan, and Koepfinger finish 3rd crossing in 4:11.96, just 1.43 seconds behind the team from Washington and Lee.
  • In the Long Jump, Koepfinger was 3rd at 5.01 meters, .08 meters short of the winning jump. Brooke Ryman (10th) added top 10 points for the Maroons, 4.79 meters.
  • Baxter clears 3.21 meters in the Pole Vault, good for a 3rd place finish, one spot ahead of teammate Louise Tester at 2.96 meters.
  • Moreau added another set of 3rd place points with 1.58 meters in the High Jump.
  • RC finished in 3rd place with 102 points. University of Lynchburg (158.5) finished first just ahead of Washington and Lee (153).

Men's Highlights:

  • Saturday night would see the Maroons get a 6th place effort in the Distance Medley (11:01.44) by the team of Ryan Hamacher, Sam Crawford, Cooper Neeble, and Nathaniel Willis.
  • Chamberlain Zulauf crossed the line 7th in the 5000 Meters with a final time of 16:00.23.
  • In the Shot Put, Kaleb Bland earned 8th place points with a throw of 12.59 meters.
  • Neeble returned in the Mile and earned more points of the Maroons (7th) with a final mark of 4:32.43.
  • Crawford claimed 9th place in the 200 Meters with a 23.10 effort. Blake Morin just missed a top 10 by .01 with a time of 23.13.
  • In the 3000 Meters, Peter Smith gave RC points with an 8th place finish in 9:08.46.
  • The 4x400 Relay would see the RC men cross the tape first with a final time of 3:25.93, winning the event by .18 of a second. The foursome of Xavier O'Brien, Cameron Harris, Micah Ray, and Crawford just out-finished the team from Bridgewater and in doing so, set the school record.
  • The Pole Vault would see the most top 10 finishes in a single event for the men. Jackson Smith earned 4th place points with 3.95 meters, finishing one spot clear of Corbin Turner (3.80 meters). Miles Enstrom cleared 3.65 meters for 7th and Dillon Kopec was 8th with a final vault of 3.35 meters.
  • Hunter Bohon just missed a top 10 with an 11th place effort (1.77 meters) in the High Jump and returned in the Long Jump for 13th place points.
  • The Bland brothers each earned a top five in the Weight Throw. Kaleb was 4th with a final distance of 15.03 meters, one spot clear of Kyle Bland in 5th (14.87 meters).
  • Roanoke men would finish 6th with 42 points. Washington and Lee would take the top spot (153) followed by University of Lynchburg (141) and Bridgewater (123).
