Roanoke Women Fall In Late Rhodes Rally

The Lead: In a game that saw nine ties and four lead changes, Rhodes scored four of the final six goals to rally and nip the Maroons in Memphis.

How it Happened:

  • The Lynx struck first, netting the first two scores of the evening.
  • Reigning ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Lilly Blair got the Maroons on the board with an unassisted goal.
  • After finding themselves down two scores, Ellie Armstrong took a pass from Riley Chase and cut the deficit in half.
  • RC would tie the game with back-to-back goals from Emerson Foster and Blair to knot the score at 4-4 with 15 minutes left in the first half.
  • The teams would go back and forth until three unanswered Rhodes goals made it 9-6 with just one minute left before the break.
  • Blair netted her third of the half on a free position before Bailey de Turo scored on an Armstrong assist with just eight ticks left on the clock, making it a one score game at the half.
  • Foster and Armstrong scored less than two minutes apart to give RC her first lead of the evening.
  • Baylee Barker scored to in a row before Roanoke answered on another de Turo goal and retook the advantage on a Jenna Kuczo free position shot.
  • Just passed the mid-way point of the second stanza, Barker would tie ahead of another Kuczo score. The Maroons would enjoy a 13-12 lead with 12:21 left on the clock.
  • However, it would be the last time that RC would play from ahead. Two Lynx scores would allow the home team to once again be out front. With 9:36 to play, Armstrong would tie the score for the final time as Barker netted her sixth and seventh goals of the game.
  • De Turo completed her hat-trick with 18 seconds left, but the clock struck 00:00 before RC could score the equalizer.
  • Foster led the Roanoke offense with four goals while Blair, de Turo, and Armstrong would add three scores apiece. Armstrong and Chase accounted for the Maroon's two assists with McKenzie Kapp picking up six draw controls and Blair led the team with five ground balls.
  • In net, Carly Schoudel recorded seven saves. The Maroons would enjoy a 36-28 edge in total shots and a 33-23 edge in shots on goal.

Up Next: Roanoke will return home for the remainder of Spring Break before heading back out on the road to face Rowan on Saturday, March 14th, wrapping up their six game road swing to open the season.
