Senior Spotlight - RC Women's Lacrosse

Senior Spotlight - RC Women's Lacrosse

The Roanoke College Women's Lacrosse program and the entire Department of Athletics would like to take this time to honor our two seniors that have meant so much to the program.

Meet the Roanoke College Women's Lacrosse Class of 2020:

McKenzie Kapp – (Morristown, N.J.)

A native of Morristown, N.J., Kapp played in 30 games for the Maroons. This season she hit career-highs in games started and draw controls (12). For her career she finished with three goals and 30 career draw controls.

Major/ plans: I am majoring in Elementary Education and planning on becoming a kindergarten teacher in the future. Next semester I will be student teaching in Salem to get my teacher licensure.

Best memories: Spring break trips with my teammates to Florida, Puerto Rico, and Tennessee.

Why Roanoke: I chose Roanoke because it checked every box in what I wanted in a school. I really loved the small school feel where I could grow close to a lot of people and feel like a big fish in a small pond. I did not come to school to be an athlete, but quickly realized that I wanted to be a part of a team and decided to try out for lacrosse in the spring of my freshman year. I loved how welcoming the team and the athletic community was to me.

Word to future athletes: Some of the best advice I've ever gotten from a senior or an  alumnae is to never take a second of it for granted, so I want to reiterate the same. You never know when your last time stepping on that field will be and for me I never saw it coming. I didn't have time to prepare, or say goodbye to the sport I love so much or even my teammates who I will call my friends for life. Situations like this make it important to appreciate every moment you have with something you love like lacrosse. Every time you step on that field you should be giving it your very best effort because if its your last game ever, how would you want to remember it.

Ali Reeve – (Waterford, Va.)

Reeve played in 36 games as a Maroon with 12 starts. She finished her career with three goals to go along with 18 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers.

Major: I am a double major in Environmental Science and Public Health Studies.

Future plans: I am moving down to Tampa to start working as a Geospatial Analyst with Dewberry.

Best Memories: My best memories from my time at Roanoke are game days. Nothing feels better than walking onto the field before a game with my teammates.

Why Roanoke: I loved Roanoke ever since my first visit. I loved every part of the campus, and when I stepped onto Kerr Stadium, with the mountains in the background, I knew Roanoke was where I wanted to spend my next 4 years.

Words to future RC lacrosse athletes: Congratulations on having the privilege of being a Maroon women's lacrosse player! Roanoke women's lacrosse team has as extremely special bond. You'll go through so much with the women on this team, and don't take a minute of it for granted. Every time you step on the field is special. You never know when you last time playing the sport you love is going to be, so take advantage of this amazing opportunity you have been given. The women on this team are some of the most amazing people I have met. They will have your back through thick and thin and will be by your side while you create some of your most treasured memories at Roanoke. I know you don't know what it means yet, but you will soon, Sku Mau Mau always ladies –
