The Lead: The Roanoke College Volleyball team opened the season at the Averett University Cougar Classic on Friday, topping William Peace after dropping a five-game decision to Guilford.

How it Happened:

• In the win over William Peace, Sydney Daniel had 15 kills while Linsey Bailey had 13. Kelsey Goodman added seven kills in the win as well and Olivia Newman had 36 assists.
• Defensively, Tori Clinevell had a team-high 20 digs, while Bailey notched a double-double with 17 stops of her own. Daniel also posted a double-double after tallying 12 digs while Goodman added 12 digs as well.
• With the score tied 4-4 in game one, RC went on a 10-2 run, opening up a 14-6 lead after a WPU attack error.
• A Daniel kill would give RC the 25-15 win in game one.
• RC jumped out to a 13-6 lead in game two following a Daniel kill before eventually opening up a 21-9 advantage.
• WPU rallied to pull within six at 23-17 but that would be as close it would get as RC closed out the game to go up 2-0. 
• With the score 18-16 Maroons in game three, an ace by Bailey and two kills from Parker Moody gave RC a 21-16 edge.
• RC led 24-20 before a Daniel kill closed out the match for the Maroons to secure the win. 
• In the loss to Guilford, Bailey had 20 kills, Daniel had 14 and Newman dished out 45 assists.
• Clinevell had a team-high 20 digs to go along with 13 each from Daniel and Bailey.
