Jason Sarro Named Roanoke Male Athlete of the Year

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College senior men's lacrosse standout Jason Sarro has been named the 2019-20 Roanoke College Male Athlete of the Year.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Sarro returned from a season-ending Achilles injury in 2019 to score 18 goals and notch 17 assists for 35 points before he and the Maroons saw their seasons cut short due to COVID-19.

"Jason Sarro had one of the finest careers in the history of Roanoke College Men's Lacrosse," said Head Coach Bill Pilat.  "He is one of only two players in our history to receive All American honors as a freshman.  His level of consistency in terms of his academics, work ethic, and point production are among the elite in our sport."

"Jason was once again our team leader in points this season and was on his way to breaking almost every scoring record in our record books.  His "lead by example" style and his production on the field make him a great recipient of this award."

The 2017 ODAC Rookie of the Year, Sarro was a three-time USILA All-American and a three-time First-Team All-ODAC selection. He finished career with 136 goals, 124 assists for 260 points in just 55 career games.

His 160 career points which was just 21 points shy of the all-time points record for the storied Maroons program. Sarro capped his career as just one of four Maroons to average four points per game over his four seasons. His 136 goals are 10th all-time in RC history and his 124 ranks fourth.

A standout in the classroom, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Finance. He is four-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team and was named to the 2019 Google Cloud (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Team.
