Butler and Hester Named Players of the Week

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon. Roanoke would claim both the baseball and softball ODAC Players of the Week. Connor Butler earned the honor for baseball while Shanan Hester claimed softball Player of the Week.

Butler was named the ODAC Player of the Week for baseball after a quartet of games that would see the second baseman post a .706 batting average. The Maroons went 4-0 for the week with two ODAC wins. The junior was a perfect 2-2 at Greensboro and followed it up with a 5-6 outing at home against Pfeiffer. In a double header sweep of Virginia Wesleyan, Butler was 5-9 with a home run, three RBI and five runs scored. His stat line for the week was: .706 average (12-17), seven runs, one home run, four RBI, and three stolen bases while posting a .684 on base percentage and slugging % of .882.

Hester earned POW honors in softball in a week that Roanoke wrapped up the regular season with four straight ODAC wins. The shortstop was 2-2 with four base on balls, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in a sweep of Ferrum. Against Eastern Mennonite, Hester went 4-8 with a run and an RBI. For the season, the North Carolina native is the batting an ODAC leading .465. In the circle this past week, Hester was 2-0, including a 2-0 shutout against the Royals. For the week she pitched 11 innings, giving up just one earned run on six hits and eight strikeouts. With their four wins this past week, Roanoke secured the #4 seed heading into the 2022 ODAC Softball Tournament.
