Athey, a local product from Cave Spring High School, was a staple in the Maroons lineup for the women’s basketball program from 1993-1997.  The Roanoke native led the Maroons to the fifth-best four-year record in Roanoke College Women’s Basketball history with a 92-21 mark (81.4%).  She also led the Maroons to three ODAC Championships and four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Athey’s finest season came in 1996-1997, when she led the Maroons in scoring, rebounding, field goal and free throw percentage.  For her efforts in her final season, she garnered honorable mention WBCA All-American honors.  In addition, she was named First-Team All-South Region, VaSID All-State, All-ODAC and GTE Academic All-District.

Also, she was named the 1996-97 ODAC Player of the Year, leading the Maroons to the ODAC Championship with a 25-3 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.  That year, she was a two-time ODAC Player of the Week as a senior.  She was named to the All-ODAC Tournament team twice, earning tournament MVP honors in 1997.

The three-time All-ODAC post player scored more than 1,000 career points.  By the end of her career in 1997, Athey was ranked among the top-10 players in career scoring, free throws, rebounding and blocked shots.  Her 14 double-doubles are the seventh highest in program-history.
