Arguably the best goalie in Roanoke College women's lacrosse history, Chesterton is the school's all-time leader in saves (958) and save percentage (.695). Chesterton was the dominate force in goal in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference during her four-year career, earning First Team All-ODAC honors in each of her four seasons in a Maroon uniform. Three times during her career, Chesterton led the Maroons to the ODAC championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Chesterton set the tone for her career in just her first season, making 198 saves, allowing just 90 goals, and earning Second Team All-American honors.

The Maroons climbed as a high as number-one in the Division III polls that season and finished with an 18-1 record. As a sophomore, Chesterton stopped 249 shots as RC went 11-7. In 1990, as the Maroons traveled to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament, Chesterton made 301 saves, setting both school and conference records. In her final season as a Maroon, Chesterton stopped 210 shots and led the team to its third ODAC championship in four seasons. The 1991 season also saw Chesterton earn All-American honors for the second time, this time garnering First Team accolades. In addition to her All-American status in 1988 and 1991, Chesterton also was named to the All-South Region team three times and was named to the North/South All-Star game following her senior season.
