Dunagan has established herself as one of the top coaches not only in the region, but also in the country. The winningest coach in school history, any sport, any gender, Dunagan has compiled over 500 career victories in her Roanoke coaching career, one of only 10 at the time of this accomplishment. Named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Coach of the Year six times, Dunagan has won a record 13 ODAC championships and has led her team to the NCAA tournament 10 times, including a stretch of nine straight from 1990 to 1998.

15 times in her 20-year coaching career, Dunagan has led the Maroons to 20-win seasons. The Maroons did not slip below 20 wins for 11 consecutive seasons between 1986 and 1997. In 1990-91, the Maroons went undefeated in conference play (18-0), advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round, and finished the season with a 28-2 overall record. In 1997, she was named the Women's Basketball Coaches Association South Region Coach of the Year.

By far the winningest coach all-time in the ODAC and the state of Virginia, Dunagan has coached the Maroons to nearly 400 conference victories since the league began play in 1982. She has coached 12 All-American selections, seven ODAC Players of the Year, 26 First-Team All-ODAC athletes, and 21 Second-Team All-Conference players. A teacher of not just the game of basketball, Dunagan has also watched every one of her four-year players earn a diploma from Roanoke College.
