Goodlake was part of the track legend that surrounds the "Fabulous 50's" at Roanoke College. Goodlake's forte was the distance events.
In 1958-59, he was the co-captain of the track team that won all 11 of its dual meets and took the state AAU, Little Eight, and Mason Dixon Championships, and finished 11th in the Nationals in Chicago
In 1955, he finished second in the ’55 Little Eight cross country championship, and third in the ’56 Mason Dixon. He also set a school record for the mile run and was a member of the Monogram Club.
