A small college third-team All-American in 1982-83, Harwood is the third all-time leading scorer in Roanoke women’s basketball with 1,515 points in four seasons with the Maroons.

She earned numerous honors in her four year career at Roanoke, including First-team All-ODAC (1982-83), First-team All-State (1982-83), First-team All-Region selection (1982-83), First-team All-Region honors (1981-82), Virginia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (VAIAW) All-State team (1981-82), VAIAW All-Tournament team (1981-82) and Virginia State All-Conference (1979-80).

After graduation, Harwood remained active in athletics as a member of the Greensboro Police Olympic softball team - state champions in 1987, '91, and '93 - national champions in 1991.
