McDade left his mark at Roanoke as a soccer star.  From 1953-57, the yearbook identified McDade for outstanding individual play and top soccer player. Was the first big name and All-American soccer player at Roanoke.

His skill and talent as a player gained him regional and national notoriety as he was selected to the All-American Intercollegiate team in 1957.  McDade was also a two-year First-Team All-Mason-Dixon Conference player (1956-57).
