A member of Roanoke's finest golf team to date, the 1981 squad that finished second at the NCAA Division III National Championship. A year later, Purdue earned the ODAC Individual Player Championship and Golfer of the Year award, garnering third-team All-America honors.
That same year, he represented Roanoke in the Division III Championship Match, finishing 16th. He earned All-ODAC status in each of the three years he participated.
After graduation, Purdue continued to compete as an amateur. In 1983, he won the Valentine Invitational Championship, at Hermitage CC, in Richmond, Va.
Chosen to represent our state as a member of the 1983 Virginia Amateur Team, participating in the Virginias-Carolinas Team matches.
In both 1992 and '94, he won the Club Championship at the college's home course, Hanging Rock Golf Club, here in Salem.
