Baseball Splits with Hampden-Sydney in Season Finale
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke split with Hampden-Sydney, (10-0 L), (10-9 W) in the season finale Saturday afternoon. The Maroons finish the season, 10-21, 5-13 in the ODAC while the Tigers are now 18-17 overall, 10-8 in the conference. HSC will advance to the ODAC Tournament held this weekend.
 
Hampden-Sydney defeated Roanoke, 10-0 in game one as they pounded 15 hits with John Terlesky (1-5) taking the loss for the Maroons. With the score 2-0 in the top of the fifth, the Tigers went on a scoring barrage, crossing the plate eight times to seal the win.
 
Terlesky walked one batter while striking out six in the loss. The Maroons had nine hits, with Chris Zachodski, Graham Thacker and Noah Davidson collecting two apiece.
 
The Maroons scored five runs in their final two at bats to win, 10-9 in game two. A four-run seventh highlighted the come-from-behind win as they scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Barrett Henderson (2-5) picked up the win for Roanoke, going the final 2.2 innings allowing only two hits with a strikeout. Cody Kidd got the starting nod and went 6.1 innings with five earned runs, walked one batter and struck out five.
 
Patrick Collins went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored. Behind the plate he threw out two runners, including one at third in the eighth inning to prevent a Tiger comeback. Senior Lance Firebaugh went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in his final game of his career.
 
Matt Herron had a two-RBI single up the middle and scored himself in the seventh-inning to tie the contest at 9-9. Thacker had a single, scored a run and added two RBI's. Davidson crossed home plate twice along with a single and a walk. Zachodzki drew two walks with a single and a run scored in his final outing as a Maroon.
