Roanoke Holds off Emory & Henry, 10-8

EMORY, Va. ---Roanoke jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings and never looked back in a 10-8 win at Emory & Henry on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Maroons improved to 7-11, 2-4 in the ODAC while the Wasps fell to 5-13, 3-5 in the ODAC.

With the win, the Maroons avenged last week's loss to the Wasps and are now 10-5 in the series. It was the first time in eight games that the men have produced 10 runs or more, including the fourth time this season.

Roanoke scored three runs in the top half of the first to grab a lead that would not be relinquished. McGraner and Thacker had base hits to start off the contest to put runners on first and second. Thacker's stolen base resulted in McGraner scoring the first run of the game as he advanced on a fielding error.

Laramore's RBI double to left center brought home Thacker as he was brought in by Chris Zachodzki, who reached base on a fielder's choice to make the score, 3-0.

In the top of the second, McGraner and Thacker got on base again and were brought home off two fielding errors to increase the lead to five. Laramore's home run to left center brought in Davidson to make it, 7-0.

The Wasps scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to close the gap to within three, 9-6. Collins' gave the Maroons their final run of the game off an RBI single which scored Davidson. EHC threatened in the bottom of the ninth, scoring two runs, but Caputo held on for the save to give the Maroons a much-needed road conference win.
