Roanoke Splits with Bridgewater in ODAC Doubleheader

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke split with Bridgewater in an ODAC doubleheader Sunday at Kiwanis Field. The men won the first game, 9-5 but fell in the twin bill, 12-8 in 11 innings. The Maroons are now 8-15, 3-8 in the ODAC.

In the opener, the Eagles (14-14, 7-6 ODAC) squandered a 5-0 lead, allowing six runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to the Maroons to claim their second win against Bridgewater in school-history.
 
Chris Caputo went 3.2 innings in his sixth start of the season before Barrett Henderson (1-2) earned his first win of the season. He allowed only one run and struck out two in his relief win appearance.
 
Jordan McGraner went 3-for-4 with two runs and Noah Davidson was 3-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Alan Moore hit a three-run home run with two runs scored in the win. Lance Firebaugh scored two runs and added a single.

Tyler Hodges and Aaron Read each finished with three hits to spark the offense in the opener.

The Eagles wasted a 7-0 lead in the second game, but scored four runs in the 11th inning to salvage the split.
 
Down 8-6 in the bottom of the eighth, Graham Thacker tied the contest with a two-RBI double to send the game into extra innings. 

With one out in the 11th, Drew Elkins reached on a throwing error and moved to third on Andy Chrismer's double. The Maroons walked Blake Stokely intentionally to load the bases and Brad Buracker followed by drawing a walk to give the Eagles a 9-8 lead. Another run scored on a Tyler Hodges groundout before Read's double plated two more runs to give the Eagles a 12-8 lead.
 
John Terlesky (0-4) took the loss for the Maroons, but pitched six innings in relief. Cody Kidd struck out five batters in five innings.
 
Thacker, Davidson and Jay Laramore collected two hits each in the loss. Davidson and Thacker drove in two runs while Laramore and Daniel Downing scored twice.

Elkins and Kevin Kirk each finished 4-for-6 at the plate to lead the offense. Chris Gramm pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, to pick up the win.
 
The men will host Guilford Tuesday, April 7 at Kiwanis Field in ODAC action. The Maroons will look to avenge a 17-12 loss in Greensboro, NC a week ago. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
