Baseball Defeats Ferrum 9-3 in Non-Conference Action

SALEM, Va. --- The Roanoke College baseball team defeated Ferrum for the second time in school history on Thursday evening at Kiwanis Field, 9-3. The first victory was a 6-3 decision on Apr. 14, 2008. The Maroons improved to 6-9 overall while the Panthers stand at 9-6. 

The first and third innings mirrored each other as Ferrum scored one run and Roanoke scored two runs in each inning. With a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Maroons added an additional run off of an Alan Moore double to make it 5-2.
 
The Panthers scored one run off of two hits in the fifth inning to cut the lead to two (5-3). Roanoke added one run in the bottom of the inning followed by three runs in the sixth. The Maroons held the 9-3 lead for the remainder of the game.
 
Moore led the Maroons once again with two hits for one run and one RBI. Noah Davidson went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs. Also collecting two hits apiece and combining for two RBI was Patrick Collins and Lance Firebaugh
 
Thacker hit two doubles in the contest, moving him past Jake Furry '08 for fifth on the all-time career doubles list with 22. He is two doubles shy from tying his brother Brennan '08 for fourth all-time (24). Thacker also recorded two runs on the night.
 
Brad Greenway started on the hill for the Maroons as he pitched four innings and struck out four batters. Chris Caputo earned his third win of the season as he combined with Cody Kidd for four strikeouts in the victory.
 
Mays, Finch, Baskeyfield, Cauley, and Milstead combined for seven strikeouts in the defeat. Mays was credited with the loss for the Panthers.
 
The Maroons will travel to Lexington on Saturday, Mar. 21 to face Washington & Lee in ODAC action. Roanoke is 2-12 all-time against the Generals and won the last meeting 10-6. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
