Baseball Finishes 1-3 in Methodist Tournament

SALEM, Va. --- The Roanoke College baseball team finished 1-3 in the Methodist Tournament this weekend. The Maroons won their first matchup vs. Frostburg State before dropping the next three games to Methodist, Huntingdon (AL), and Lynchburg.

On Friday, the men defeated Frostburg State, 4-2 in the first game of the tournament. Chris Caputo started on the mound for the Maroons pitching six innings and striking out five batters. Joseph Peery pitched the final three innings to earn his first career win. 

Graham Thacker went 3-for-4 in the victory with one run and one RBI. Brad Greenway hit a double in his 2-for-4 performance with one RBI.
 
In the second game on Friday the men fell to Methodist 17-0. Four Maroons saw time on the mound to combine for three strikeouts.  Cody Kidd pitched the first two innings and was credited with the loss.
 
Noah Davidson went 2-for-2 in the contest. Also getting a hit was Alan Moore, Lance Firebaugh, and Sean Matheison.
 
Roanoke dropped to Huntingdon (AL) 10-4 on Saturday morning in their third game of the tournament. Barrett Henderson started on the hill for the Maroons and had two strikeouts.  Joseph Johannes relieved Henderson and struck out five batters in his 4.1 innings of play. Henderson was given the loss.
 
Three Maroons batted .500 or better against the Hawks including a 3-for-5, two run performance from Thacker. Moore went 3-for-4 in the victory and Davidson added two RBI and two hits including a double.
 
The Maroons lost their final game of the Methodist Tournament this weekend to Lynchburg 10-1. John Terleskey (0-2) was first on the hill pitching 5.2 innings and striking out two. He was credited with the loss. William Ruberry, Jani Kamphuis, and Joseph Peery also shared time on the mound in the contest.
 
Moore was consistent in his weekend performance as he batted .500 in three of four games. He was 2-for-4 against the Hornets and had the Maroon's only RBI. Michael Kluge and freshman Mathiesan also hit 2-for-4 vs. Lynchburg and Kluge recorded his first career triple.
 
Roanoke will host Penn. State Behrend in a three game series at Kiwanis field on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1. Game time is set for noon on Saturday and Sunday.   It will be the first meeting between the Lions and the Maroons.
