Baseball Falls to Milligan College 10-4 in Season-Opener

ELIZABETHTON, Tn. ---The Roanoke College baseball team dropped their season-opener, 10-4 to Milligan at the Elizabethton Minor League Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Maroons now stand 0-1 on the young season while the Buffalos, who compete in the NAIA, improved to 3-1. Milligan now holds a 2-0 series advantage against Roanoke.
 
Roanoke jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings off of five hits including a double from Graham Thacker, Chris Zachodzki, and Brad Greenway
 
Milligan responded in the third inning as Spence Street hit a three-run homer and Dallas Crouch tripled. The Buffalos scored four runs off of two hits.
 
Thacker singled for an RBI in the fourth inning to tie the score at four but Milligan dominated the bottom of the inning with three singles and a double to score five runs and give the Buffalos a 9-4 lead.  
Wesley Jones homered in the seventh to make it 10-4.

Mark Allen Bound, Josh Hullet, and Brandon Davis all contributed effective relief pitching for the Buffalos as they left the Maroons scoreless for the remainder of the game.
 
Thacker and Greenway both contributed two hits apiece in the contest. Freshman Jordan McGraner added the fourth of five Maroon doubles of the day and combined with Zachodzki for three runs in the contest. Guilford transfer Jay Laramore recorded his first double as a Maroon in the defeat.
 
Joseph Johannes started for the Maroons and pitched two complete innings. John Terlesky, Cody Kidd, and Jani Kamphuis combined for five strikeouts and Terlesky was given the first loss of the season.
 
The men will host Virginia Intermont on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Kiwanis Field. The doubleheader will start at 1:00 pm. The Cobras won two of the last three meetings. Roanoke's last victory vs. VIC was a 10-8 decision on Mar. 6. The Cobras hold a 5-10 series advantage over the Maroons.
