Roanoke Swept by Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC Doubleheader

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Roanoke dropped an ODAC doubleheader to Virginia Wesleyan, 10-0, 6-1 at Marlins Field on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons are now 7-13, 2-6 in the ODAC while the Marlins are 15-7, 5-1 in conference play.
 
Roanoke took a 1-0 lead in the first game with a run in the top of the first, but Marion's homer tied the score for the Marlins in the second.  VWC took the lead for good in the third when a Phil Cadle grounder scored Max Axelrod, who reached base earlier on an error.
 
The Maroons were only behind 2-0 before the Marlins pulled away with a six-run fifth inning to claim game one. Jay Laramore and Noah Davidson had the only two hits for the Maroons, resulting in doubles.
 
Chris Caputo (3-2) took the loss in five innings of work striking out two batters and allowed 10 hits.  Jordan McGraner stepped in to finish the final inning, allowing two hits.
 
The Maroons took a 1-0 lead in the twin bill in the top of the first as Jay Laramore's single scored Jordan McGraner.  The Marlins countered with runs in the next two innings as they took the lead for good. They sealed the sweep with a two-run seventh to win the 13th game in the series (13-1).
 
Sean Mathiesen, Graham Thacker and Alan Moore also collected his for Roanoke, with Moore's a pinch-hit double in his only at bat of the day.
 
Cody Kidd (1-4) absorbed the loss for Roanoke in the second game, striking out four, walking one and allowing seven hits and two earned runs.  Barrett Henderson pitched the final two innings.
 
The men are on the road again this Wednesday as they travel to Greensboro, NC to play against Guilford.  The Maroons are 6-7 against the Quakers, claiming the last three meetings.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
