Roanoke Splits ODAC-Doubleheader with Washington & Lee
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke split another ODAC-doubleheader, this time against Washington & Lee with scores of 4-2 W, 6-0 L this afternoon at Lewis-Gale Field Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons are now 6-8 overall, 2-2 in the ODAC. The Generals now stand at 4-7, 2-3 in conference play.
 
In game one, Cody Kidd (Salem, VA, Glenvar)(3-1) earned the win, going four innings of scoreless baseball with three strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Grouten (Avon, CT, Avon)came in relief and closed the final three innings with three strikeouts.
 
The Maroons had a four-run fourth inning, led by Mark Manthe (Blacksburg, VA, Blacksburg)two-RBI single to deep right field, scoring Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River)and Graham Thacker (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest)to give them the first two runs of the game. Rus Shefte (Charlotte, NC, Charlotte Catholic)followed with a two-RBI single of his own, scoring Alan Moore (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)and Manthe to give the Maroons a 4-0 lead.
 
The Generals managed two runs in the final inning, but Roanoke prevailed, holding onto the 4-2 victory.
 
Manthe went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI to lead the Maroons at the plate. Travalini, Moore and Thacker each went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the winning effort.
 
The Maroons fell in the twin bill, 6-0 to split with W&L for only the third time. Roanoke is now 3-15 all-time against the Generals.
 
Chris Caputo (Dunwoody, GA, Dunwoody)(0-3) took the loss for the Maroons, going three innings with three strikeouts and allowing one walk. Manthe came in middle relief to throw four scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
 
Travalini, Davidson, C.J. Poad (Clinton, MD, Riverdale Baptist)and Caylen Baire (St. Albans, WV, St. Albans)each collected a hit in game two. Travalini stole his seventh base of the season, two shy of tying the school's single-season record.
 
The men will play their fourth game in three days when they host Guilford tomorrow night. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Field.
