Baseball Earns 8-6 win over Guilford on ODAC Action
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated Guilford, 8-6 in an ODAC contest at Kiwanis Field on Wednesday evening.   The Maroons improved to 7-8 overall, 3-2 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 10-9, 3-3 in conference play.
 
With the win, Roanoke is 7-9 all-time against Guilford, winning four of its last six meetings against the Quakers. After playing their fourth game over the last three days, the 7-8 mark is the best start to a season since the 2003 (9-7).
 
Six players collected two hits on the night, led by Mark Manthe (Blacksburg, VA, Blacksburg)going 2-for-4 with his first career home run and a career-best five RBI. Noah Davidson (Salem, VA, Salem)went 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run to break the school-record with 80 career runs scored.
 
Down, 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Manthe got the Maroons on the board in a big way, hitting a two-RBI single up the middle to give the Maroons a 2-1 lead. In the third, Manthe broke a 3-3 tie as he belted a three-run homer to left center to give Roanoke a commanding three-run lead.
 
The Quakers scored two runs in the top of the fifth, only to have Roanoke answer once again with two runs of their own to give the Maroons an 8-5 advantage.
 
John Terlesky (Charlottesville, VA , Albermarle)(1-0) earned the win in relief, going 3.2 innings allowing only two earned runs with one strikeout. Michael Haslam (Collegeville, PA, Springfield)earned his second save of the season, going two innings with one strikeout.
 
Will James (2-1) took the loss for the Quakers. Sammy Stuart came in relief and allowed only one earned run in four innings of work with four strikeouts.
 
Jay Cox and Derek Hardison collected three hits each for game-highs to lead Guilford. Hardison scored twice while Jordan Nelson finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
 
The men return to action this Saturday, March 20 as they host Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC doubleheader. The Maroons are 1-14 all-time against the Marlins, with their only win coming in 2007. Game time is scheduled for noon.
