Averett Hands Roanoke a 17-5 Loss in Non-Conference Action
SALEM, Va. --- Averett produced 20 hits in a 17-5 win over Roanoke Wednesday night at Kiwanis Field.   The Maroons dropped to 8-11 while the Cougars improved to 18-11.
 
The Maroons, now 1-8 against the Cougars, were led by Jay Laramore (Pfafftown, NC, Guilford)who went a season-high 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. He has had a hit in the last five games, including multi-hit games in the last three outings. Scott Thurston (Glen Allen, VA, J.R. Tucker)singled for his second career hit in the ninth. Noah Davidson (Salem, VA, Salem)scored his 84th career run, which is tied for second all-time at Roanoke and four shy of tying the school-record. He already holds the career walks record with 50.
 
Graham Thacker (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest)singled and scored in the loss. He has had a hit in nine of the last 10 games and is currently on a five-game hit-streak. He is one sacrifice hit shy of tying the school-record, held by his brother, Brennan Thacker (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest)'08.
 
Alan Moore (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI-double in his third-straight multi-hit game. He moved into fourth all-time in runs scored (80) and became the school's all-time hits leader, passing Nathan Unroe (Iron Gate, VA, Alleghany)'07 with 159 career hits. Moore already holds the career doubles (43) and total bases records (244), and is two home runs shy of tying the school-record (12).
 
Chris Moyer (4-0) finished with eight strikeouts in seven innings for Averett. Joseph Johannes (Piedmont, SC, Woodmont)(0-2) took the loss for Roanoke. William Ruberry (Alexandria, VA, St. Stephens/St. Agnes)and Jani Kamphuis (Warrentown, VA, Fauquier)pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
 
The men return to action this weekend as they travel to Bridgewater College in an ODAC doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for noon.
