Baseball Escapes with 16-12 win over Emory & Henry
EMORY, Va. --- Roanoke had to come from behind three times to knock off Emory & Henry, 16-12 on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 9-13 overall, 5-6 in the ODAC. The Wasps fell to 1-13, 0-6 in conference play.
 
The Maroons are now 11-5 against the Wasps, winning 11 of the last 12 meetings. The 28 total runs are the most in the series while the 16 runs are the second-most against E&H. The Maroons had a school-record four double-plays turned this afternoon along with seven doubles to set a new team single-game record.

Up 5-0 in the bottom of the second, the Maroons allowed five runs as the Wasps tied the contest. The Maroons put up two more runs in the third before E&H scored three in the fourth to take the 8-7 lead.
 
Both teams scored four runs in the fifth inning, but the Maroons bats were more dominant this afternoon. Roanoke prevailed with a three-run eighth and added two insurance runs in the ninth to escape with a big road ODAC-win.
 
Cameron Travalini (Millville, DE, Indian River)and Graham Thacker (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest)both tied Alan Moore (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)single-game at bats record with seven. Moore moved into a tie for third in career at bats with 413, followed by Thacker with 385.
 
Mark Wimmer (Salem, VA, Salem)(3-0) earned the win in relief, going the final five innings while allowing only two runs and with six strikeouts.
 
Thacker had a season-best and tied a career-high with four hits, including two doubles with two runs and two RBI. He also had two stolen bases in the win and is now tied for third on the career doubles list (27) and fourth in RBI's (68). Sean Mathiesen (San Clemente, CA, San Clemente)went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Barrett Henderson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spirng)finished 3-for-6 with a career-high four runs scored.
 
Roanoke's top-hitter, Moore was walked twice but crossed the plate both times he was on base.  He moved into fourth on the career runs scored list (83), one shy of third on that list.  Jay Laramore (Pfafftown, NC, Guilford)smashed two doubles to drive in two runs and scored once.   Caylen Baire (St. Albans, WV, St. Albans)had a single, a double, a run and drove in three RBI.
 
The men return to action this weekend as they host Lynchburg in an ODAC doubleheader. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Kiwanis Field.
