Baseball drops 8-3 decision at Emory & Henry
EMORY, Va. --- Roanoke dropped an 8-3 decision on the road at Emory & Henry in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Tuesday afternoon.  The Maroons are now 10-11 overall, 2-3 in the ODAC.  The Wasps improve to 6-13, 4-3 in the ODAC.
 
Brian Kluge went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Maroons.  Six additional players collected a hit for Roanoke, including doubles by Jacob McMillian and Jacob Clifton.
 
The Maroons took the early lead in the top of the second, 2-0.  Clifton doubled down the left field line and Dalton Lipes got on with a walk to put two runners on with one out.  Alex Stepp singled through the left side to score Clifton and advance Lipes to third.  Kluge's single to left field brought home Lipes as Roanoke took command early.
 
The Wasps cut the lead in half in the third and took the lead with a two-run fourth inning to make it, 3-2.  L Ball smashed a two-run homer to over the right centerfield wall to give his team their first lead of the game.
 
In the top of the eighth, the Maroons tied the game at 3-all.  Kluge doubled and was eventually brought home by Bradley Mattox's single, which Kluge advanced home on a throwing error.
 
The bottom of the eighth, a five-run inning proved detrimental to the Maroons, as they allowed only two hits in the Wasps final at bat.  The Maroons went 1-2-3 in their final at bat to end the game.
 
Tyler Grouten went four innings in the no decision effort with two strikeouts and allowed three runs.  McMillian (4-2) took the loss in relief for the Maroons.
 
The men will host Milligan in non-conference action on Thursday, March 22.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Field.
