Roanoke Erases Seven Run Deficit, Defeats Milligan 14-12
SALEM - The Roanoke Baseball team erased a seven run deficit accumulated by the second inning to defeat Milligan 14-12 on Thursday night.  The Maroons rise to 11-11 on the season, while the Buffalo's now sit at 15-16.

Roanoke faced Milligan just nine days prior and fell to the Buffs 12-2.  The Maroons were previously 0-4 against Milligan entering this contest, scoring no more than four runs in any of the matchups.

Roanoke up gave up two runs in the first and five in the second before getting hot on the basepaths themselves.  The Maroons had one run cross the plate in the second.  Mark Manthe hit a two RBI single as the third batter in the order to put the Maroons' first runs of the inning on the board.  Just two batters later, Jacob Cliffton also hit a two RBI single that drove in Manthe and Ben Amos.  Nick Sburlati knocked in Cliffton to bring the Maroons' within 2, 7-6 at the end of two.

Milligan answered with a Tyree Jeffries homer in the top of the third, but Roanoke was quick to put up more runs of their own.  Manthe and Amos both hit RBI doubles, and Cliffton had another RBI single as the Maroons took their first lead of the game at 9-8 by the end of the third.

The Maroons put up two more in the fifth and three in the seventh to lead 14-9 entering the eighth.  Milligan fought back in the eighth but just fell a few runs short.  Roanoke held off the Buffs in the top of the night, and picked up their first win against Milligan with a score of 14-12.

Mark Manthe was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and scoring three runs of his own.  Jacob Cliffton went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and crossed the plate twice himself.  Ben Amos was 2-for-3 and scored three runs.

Dalton Altizer picked up the win for the Maroons pitching five and a third, giving up five runs off eight hits.  Altizer also struck out five.

The Maroons return to action this weekend as they travel to face Bridgewater in double-header action.  The contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM first pitch.
