Baseball Drops Two in Senior Day Double Header with Randolph Macon
SALEM – The Roanoke College Baseball team dropped their final two games of the season to Randolph-Macon College on Friday evening.  The Maroons finish their season with a record of 16-21, 7-11 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets move to 18-16-1 and 11-6 in ODAC play.

Roanoke's 16 wins this season ties the all-time single season wins record originally set in 2004.  Between the two games, the Maroons celebrated the careers of six seniors on the team: Benjamin Amos, Jonathan Dana, Zack Folger, Matt Wallman, Joseph Peery, and William Ruberry.

In the first game, The Maroons hopped on the board early as Brian Kluge led off with a double, then was plated by a double from Amos.  Amos then scored from an RBI single by Mark Manthe.  However, it was the Yellow Jackets, who slowly chipped away at the Roanoke lead, scoring one in the second and one in the fourth to tie the game at two.

Randolph-Macon's biggest inning was in the fifth as they plated three runs, including two off a Jeb Weymouth single.  Weymouth would later score in the inning to give the Yellow Jackets the 5-2 lead.  Roanoke was held at bay for the remainder of the game, as Randolph-Macon scored a pair of security runs, one each in the eighth and ninth to win 7-2.

Kluge went 2-for-4 in the contest, while Bradley Mattox was 2-for-3.  Randolph-Macon's Jamie Hendrick pitched the complete game, giving just two runs off seven hits.

In the second contest, the Maroons jumped out to an early lead just as they had in the first.  Roanoke scored three runs in the second inning, including a two RBI single from Chad Hill, scoring Jacob Clifton and Mark Manthe.  In the next at-bat, Caylen Baire hit an RBI single of his own to put the team up 3-0 after two.

Randolph-Macon scored two runs each in the top of the third and fourth innings, to take a 4-3 lead after the top of the fourth.  The Maroons came back in the fourth as Brian Kluge hit a single that scored Hill, tying the game at 4-4 after four.  It would be the top of the fifth inning that proved costly for the Maroons as the Yellow Jackets plated seven runs during the half inning, taking a 11-4 lead entering the bottom of the fifth.

Roanoke fought back in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs as Hill hit an RBI single scoring Wallman.  Bradley Mattox would also cross the plate on a wild pitch, bring the Maroons back within five, 11-6.  However, as Randolph-Macon scored one more run in the top of the seventh, the Maroons were unable to get back into the groove, scoring only one run in the bottom of the ninth, falling 12-7 in the second game.

Chad Hill finished the second game going 4-for-5 with three RBIs.  Kluge finished 2-for-4 with one RBI.
