Maroons Split Baseball Home Opener Against Frostburg State on Friday
SALEM - The Roanoke College baseball team split both games in their home opener against Frostburg State University on Friday evening in non-conference action. The Maroons now have a record of 2-3, while the Bobcats start their season 1-1.

In the first game of the day, Frostburg State got on the board early as Kevin Kean reached on a fielding error. He was later batted around to home by Dylan Shupe, giving the Bobcats an 1-0 lead. Frostburg State wouldn't score again until the fifth inning when Garrett Price reached on a single to left field. Kean hit an RBI double to center field that scored Price from second, extending the Bobcats' lead to 2-0.

Frostburg State put one more run on the board in the top of the seventh as the Bobcats hit back to back doubles, building their final lead to 3-0.

Brian Kluge, Bradley Mattox and Cody Craft finished the first game with one hit each. Cameron Holshouser pitched the first five innings of the game, giving up two runs off three hits and struck out six. Austin Gregory came in for the final two innings and gave up one run and struck out two.

In the second game, each team held each other at bay for the first five innings, but it was in the bottom of the sixth that the Maroons struck. Boonewell Hagy opened up the inning with a single to center field. Chad Hill came in to pinch run for Hagy on the basepaths. Cody Craft followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Hill over to second. Gavin then Pellitteri pinch ran for Hill at second. Jacob Clifton came to bat next, and hit a single to center field that brought Pellitteri all the way around to home to score the winning run of the game.

In the second game, Boonewell Hagy led the team in hitting, going 2-3 in the contest. Brian Kluge, Bradley Mattox and Jacob Clifton all got one hit each. Tyler Grouten pitched the first five innings of the contest, giving up three hits, and striking out seven batters. Mark Wimmer picked up the win with two innings pitched giving up no hits and striking out one.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 16th as they play one final, nine-inning game against Frostburg State at Kiwanis Field. That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
