Roanoke Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Frostburg State on Saturday
SALEM – The Roanoke College Baseball team fell in the third game of the weekend to Frostburg State University, 11-5 on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 2-4, while the Bobcats are now 2-1.

Frostburg State hopped on the board first at Kiwanis Field, as Rob Jennings crossed the plate after Danny Morris hit an RBI double to right center field.  The Bobcats scored one more run in the inning after Brandon Remalia hit into a double play, and Morris scored from third to take a 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning.

The Maroons responded in the bottom of the inning as Cam Cassady doubled to left center field, followed by and RBI double by Nick Sburlati, cutting the deficit to one.  Caylen Baire and Sean Cameron walked, loading the bases for Brian Kluge to hit a single to third base, scoring Sburlati.  At the end of two, Roanoke and Frostburg State were tied at 2-2.

Frostburg State put three more runs on the board in the third inning, as Pat Sapp scored on an error, followed by a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan McGuigan from third.  Morris then singled to left field, scoring Dylan Shupe and putting the Bobcats ahead 5-2 after the top of the third.

Bradley Mattox opened the bottom of the fifth inning with a double.  Pellitteri followed with an RBI double, scoring Mattox from second. Roanoke pulled within two, 5-3.  However it was in the top of the sixth inning where Frostburg State extended the gap.  The Bobcats had seven batters reach base, five of which reached by way of hits.  Frostburg State put six runs on the board in the sixth to take an 11-3 lead.

The Maroons battled in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Brian Kluge opened the inning with a single to center and then stole second.  Mattox reached base on an error, advancing to second and Kluge took third.  A fielder's choice that also involved an error scored both Mattox and Kluge to bring the Maroons within six, 11-5.  However, those were the final runs scored by either team, as Roanoke took the 11-5 loss in non-conference play.

Brian Kluge and Gavin Pellitteri each finished with two hits on the afternoon while five different Maroons had one.  Bradley Mattox led the team in runs with two, and four different Roanoke players had one RBI each.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 23rd as they play host to the University of Maine-Presque Isle in double-header action.  The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
