Maroons Fall To Panthers on Thursday Night, 7-1
SALEM – In a return bout from earlier this season, the Roanoke College baseball team fell in non-conference action to Ferrum College, 7-1 on Thursday.  The Maroons now have a record of 4-6, while the Panthers now sit with a mark of 7-7.

The Maroons got off to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, as Bryan Kluge reached base on an error, then was batted home by a Gavin Pellitteri single to left field.  At the end of the inning, Roanoke led 1-0.

The Panthers were quick to retaliate, scoring a run in the top of the second, as Jeffery Swoope hit a single up the middle, scoring Justin Cox from second base.  The score remained tied through four innings.  Ferrum put two more runs up on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  With a runner on first and second, Wes Walker hit a two RBI double down the left field line, increasing Ferrum's lead to 3-1.  The Panthers proceeded to score three more runs over the next two innings, pulling ahead 6-1 after the top of the seventh.  Ferrum tallied one final run in the top of the ninth, as Walker found home plate on an infield error.  After nine innings, Ferrum defeated Roanoke 7-1 on Thursday night.

Six different Maroons completed the game with one hit each, while Bryan Kluge came away with the lone run for Roanoke.  Gavin Pellitteri went 1-2 on the afternoon, picking up the team's only RBI.  Zach Hamilton (0-1) picked up the loss for the Maroons, pitching four and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, and striking out four.

Wes Walker and Jeffery Swoope led the Panthers in hits with two each, while three other players had one.  Walker, Swoope and Justin Cox had two RBIs each, while Walker and Cox had two runs to their name.  Adam Duncan (1-0) picked up the win for Ferrum, pitching three innings and without giving up a run.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, March 3rd, as they face off against ODAC opponent Shenandoah University.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
