Maroons Defeat Wasps 7-2 on Wednesday Night
SALEM – The Roanoke College baseball team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, Emory & Henry, 7-2 on Wednesday.   The Maroons now have a record of 6-10, 2-3 ODAC, while the Wasps are now 6-10, 1-4 ODAC.
 
The Maroons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Aaron Burton hit an RBI single, followed by a two RBI single from Brian Kluge.  Boonewell Hagy, Jacob Clifton and Cam Cassady all scored in the inning.
 
The Wasps put up a run in the top of the third, as Sam Line grounded out, allowing Mark Roberts to score from third.  In the bottom of the inning, Roanoke responded with three more runs.  Aaron Burton picked up his second RBI, knocking in both Jacob Clifton and Mark Manthe.  Boonewell Hagy hit a sacrifice fly ball plating Burton, giving Roanoke a 6-1 lead after the third inning.  In the bottom of the fourth, Roanoke tallied one more run as Manthe stole home, giving the Maroons a 7-1 lead.
 
The Wasps would only score one more run as Connor Wise hit an RBI double, plating Eric Houff on the play.  That would serve as the final run of the game as Roanoke won the ODAC contest, 7-2 on Wednesday.
 
Cam Cassady led the Maroons in hitting, going 2-4 on the evening.  Jacob Clifton scored a team-high two runs, while Brian Kluge and Aaron Burton each had two RBIs.  Mark Wimmer (2-1) picked up the victory after six innings of work, striking out five.
 
Four different Wasps walked away from the contest with a single hit, while Sam Line and Connor Wise had the lone RBIs.  Ty Hill (3-2) was tabbed with the loss, giving up seven runs off ffour hits, and striking out four.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 15th as they host Earlham College in double-header action.  That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
