Maroons Fall to Emory & Henry on the Road in ODAC Play, 10-9
EMORY – Despite a late, eighth inning five-run rally, the Roanoke College baseball team fell 10-9 to Emory & Henry on Tuesday evening.  The Maroons have a record of 8-12, 2-4 ODAC, while the Wasps now sit with a record of 7-11, 2-4 ODAC.

The Maroons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Cam Cassady hit a two RBI single to center field in the top of the second, plating Boonewell Hagy and Jacob Clifton.

The Wasps had a breakout inning in the bottom of the second, as they posted seven runs on the Maroons.  In three of the four at-bats that Emory & Henry scored, the batter tallied a two RBI hit, including a two RBI home run from Jordan Woullard.  After Woullard homered, Connor Wise hit a home run of his own, giving Emory & Henry a 7-2 lead over the Maroons after the second inning.

In the top of the third, Mark Manthe hit a two run bomb to left field, bringing the Maroons back within three, 7-4.  Neither team would find the plate again until the top of the eighth inning, when Roanoke began to rally.  Brian Kluge hit an RBI single to left field, allowing Aaron Burton to score.  The Maroons  pulled within one as Bradley Mattox hit an RBI sacrifice fly-ball that plated Cassady.  The Maroons took their first lead of the game since the second inning when Manthe hit his second home run of the game, this time a three RBI shot to center field.  After the top of the eighth, Roanoke led 9-7.  However, their lead wasn't safe as Emory & Henry posted a pair of RBI singles, as well as a lead-taking sacrifice fly, to end the eighth inning with a 10-9 lead, and ultimately the victory.  Emory & Henry defeated Roanoke in ODAC play 10-9 on Tuesday.

Cam Cassady led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-4 on the afternoon, while Mark Manthe, Reece Kingery and Bradley Mattox had two hits each.  Manthe led the team in RBIs with five, including three from his home run in the eighth inning.  Zach Hamilton was tabbed with the loss after 1.1 innings of play, striking out two and giving up three runs.

Emory and Henry was led by Eric Houff in hitting, going 3-5 on the evening.  He was followed by Woullard who went 2-4.  Houff and Woullard led the team in RBIs as well, driving in three runs apiece.  Austin Collins was awarded the victory, pitching one inning of work, giving up five runs and striking out one.  Will Dingus earned the save, pitching the final inning of the game.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 20th as they play host to Milligan College.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
