SALEM – The Roanoke College baseball team rallied late in the eighth inning to defeat non-conference opponent Milligan, 4-1 on Wednesday night.
 
The Maroons got their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Bradley Mattox led off with a single, then worked his way home, scoring on a passed ball.  After four, Roanoke held a 1-0 lead over the Buffs.  Milligan tied the game at 1-1 after Sam Tarlton crossed the plate after being walked home in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Roanoke rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning as Cody Craft, who came in as a pinch hitter, got the inning started with a single up the middle.  With two outs, Cam Cassady hit an RBI single, plating Craft.  Two batters later, Mark Manthe hit a two RBI double to give Roanoke the 4-1 lead.  Cameron Holshouser came in the ninth inning, striking out two of the last three batters to clench the victory for Roanoke in non-conference action.
 
Bradley Mattox, Mark Manthe and Jacob Clifton each had two hits on the afternoon, with Mattox scoring two of the Maroons runs on the evening.  Mark Manthe continues to rack up RBIs as he tallied two during the contest.  Tyler Grouten (3-3) earned the victory on the night, pitching one inning, while Cameron Holshouser was tabbed with the save.
 
Luke Kirk led the team in hitting going 2-3 on the evening.  Jarrett Ramsey was credited with the loss, giving up three runs off four hits in 0.2 innings of work.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 23^rd as they face off against ODAC opponent, Washington and Lee on the road.  That double-header is scheduled for a 12:00 PM first pitch.
