Baseball Drops Two to Washington and Lee on Saturday Afternoon
LEXINGTON – The Roanoke College baseball team dropped a pair of games to Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon, 10-4 and 8-2.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-14; 2-6 in ODAC play, while the Generals hold a mark of 12-9; 6-3 in the ODAC.
 
The Generals took an early lead in the first contest, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  A run scored on a wild pitch, then Keegan Dolan hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Alex Maragos.  Roanoke responded in the top of the second inning as Aaron Burton hit an RBI single to right field, plating Mark Manthe.  Washington and Lee scored two runs over the next two innings to go ahead 4-1 after three innings.  The Generals scored again in the bottom of the seventh as Dolan hit an RBI double to score Weprinski, and take a 5-1 lead.
 
Roanoke scored another run in the top of the eighth inning after Clark Crutchfield knocked in Manthe, scoring his second run of the game.  The Generals really created distance in the bottom of the eighth inning as they scored four runs, taking a 10-2 lead.  Cam Cassady and Bradley Mattox each had RBI hits in the top of the ninth, but couldn't close the gap as Roanoke fell 10-4.
 
Crutchfield led the team in hitting during the first game, going 3-4 with an RBI.  Six other Maroons had one hit each during the game, and Mark Manthe led the team with two runs scored.  Cameron Holshouser (2-4) was tabbed with the loss, giving up five runs, and striking out one.
 
Weprinsky led the Generals in hitting, going 3-5 in the contest.  Stutts, Salley and Maragos scored two runs each in the game, while Stutts and Dolan each had two RBIs.  Ian Shaw (4-1) picked up the victory, pitching 8.2 innings, giving up four runs off of nine hits and striking out two.
 
The Generals got on the board first again in the second contest as Maragos hit an RBI single plating Salley to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning.  The Maroons answered in the top of the second, as Crutchfield singled to right field, plating Manthe.   The teams stayed tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning as the Generals put up four runs in the frame, claming a 5-1 lead.
 
Roanoke wouldn't score again until the top of the eighth inning as Cassady singled through the middle to score Brian Kluge, and pull within three 5-2.  However, Washington and Lee plated three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, going ahead by six, 8-2, which served as the final score of the second contest.
 
Crutchfield led the Maroons for the second game in a row in hitting, going 3-4 on the afternoon.  Also 3-4 in the contest was Cam Cassady.  Both Crutchfield and Cassady finished the game with an RBI each.  Tyler Grouten (2-4) picked up the loss, giving up five runs off six hits, and striking out five.
 
The Generals were led in hitting again by Weprinski, who hit 3-5 to go along with three RBIs.  Salley and Maragos each followed with two hits and one RBI each.  Nate Plein (4-1) earned the victory, pitching six innings, giving up one run off five hits and striking out four.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 27th as they travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Guilford College in ODAC action.  That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
