Roanoke Baseball falls to Guilford on Wednesday
GREENSBORO, NC – The Roanoke College baseball team fell in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon to Guilford College, 6-1.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-15, 2-7 ODAC, while the Quakers sit with a record of 11-13, 4-7 in the ODAC.
 
The Quakers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning as Kent Peterson hit an RBI sacrifice fly ball to center field, scoring Herc Ingels.
 
With one out in the top of the second, Aaron Burton took a walk to load the bases.  He was followed by Brian Kluge who also walked, bringing in Jacob Clifton from third to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Guilford broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning as Peterson and Corey Wallace hit RBI singles to score runs while Justin Pittman hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another.  After three innings, Guilford led 4-1.  Both teams went scoreless over the next four innings, until the Quakers' Jordan Slate and Ingels had RBI base hits to drive in two more runs and pull ahead for the final score of 6-1.
 
Kluge and Boonewell Hagy led the Maroons in hitting, both with two hits on the afternoon.  Kluge picked up the teams only RBI, while Clifton scored the Maroons' run.  Mark Wimmer (2-2) was tabbed with the loss after pitching four innings and giving up four runs off of seven hits.
 
Herc Ingels topped the Quakers in batting, hitting 3-5 on the day with two runs and one RBI.  Also scoring two runs for the Quakers was Jordan Slate, who went 2-3.  Chad Wagoner (1-0) earned the victory for Guilford, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up no runs and striking out four batters.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 30th as they take on ODAC opponent, Randolph-Macon in double-header action at Kiwanis Field.  That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
