Maroons Snag ODAC Win Over Lynchburg, 6-3 on Wednesday
LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College baseball team picked up a win over ODAC opponent Lynchburg College, 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 13-17, 6-9 ODAC, while the Hornets sit with a mark of 17-14-1, 7-7-1 in ODAC play.
 
Brian Kluge reached base early for the Maroons, taking a walk as the leadoff batter.  He was able to work his way home on an infield groundout, giving the Maroons a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning.  The Hornets responded with runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Lincoln Evans hit a double to center field that plating Jake Tanner and Matt Matthews.  Joe Rodgers was able to reach base on an error, a play that allowed Evans to cross the plate and take a 3-1 lead for Lynchburg.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, the bats got hot for the Maroons as Andrew Peterson hit an RBI double down the third baseline, scoring Jacob Clifton.  As the next batter, Reece Kingery hit an infield single, allowing Boonewell Hagy to cross the plate and tie the game up at 3-3.  Kluge got in on the action as he hit an RBI single to right field, plating Peterson as the go-ahead run.  Reece Kingery was able to make his way home on a balk, and the Maroons ended the fourth inning with a 5-3 lead. 
 
The Maroons scored one more run in the top of the seventh inning as Mark Manthe hit a shot to left field that allowed Cam Cassady to come around and extend Roanoke's lead to three.  The Maroons were able to hold of Lynchburg for the remainder of the contest, picking up the ODAC win over the Hornets, 6-3.
 
Cam Cassady led the Maroons in hitting, going 2-5 on the afternoon while six other players finished with one hit each.  Six Roanoke players also finished with one run each.  Kluge, Mattox, Manthe, Peterson and Kingery all finished the game with one RBI to their credit.  Jacob McMillan (2-1) was tabbed with the victory, pitching four innings and giving up three runs, also striking out two.  Austin Gregory was given the save as well, pitching two innings, giving up no hits and striking out one.
 
The Hornets were led in hitting by Michael Kenah who finished the game 3-6.  He was followed by Pat Harris who was 2-2 on the afternoon.  Matt Matthews, Jake Tanner and Lincoln Evans all crossed the plate once for Lynchburg.  Charlie Thieringer (0-2) was credited with the loss, giving up four runs off four hits, while striking out five.
 
The Maroons return to action on Thursday, April 11th as they face off against non-conference opponent Southern Virginia University.  That contest will take place at Kiwanis Field and is scheduled for a 7:30 PM start time.
