DANVILLE, VA - The Roanoke College baseball team fell in non-conference action to Averett University on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons now have a record of 1-6, while the Cougars sit with a mark of 4-7.

Averett jumped on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Trey Wall hit double down the left field line to get on base. J.T. Crowder came up as the very next batter with a single up the middle to score Wall from second. Two batters later, Mike Moore stole second, allowing Crowder to score off of a throwing error, putting the Cougars ahead 2-0 after three innings.

The Maroons put a run up in the top of the sixth inning to pull within one. Will Black led off with a single to center field, which he followed up by stealing second. After a ground out to third, Black advanced to third base. Kevin Oakey hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Black in the process, as Roanoke now trailed 2-1.

Averett crossed the plate again twice in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike Moore scored for the second time today, this time on a throwing error as well. With two runners on, Andrew Davies hit a two RBI double to right center field, scoring Taylor Davis and Cody Moore in the process. After eight innings, Averett had built a 5-1 lead.

Collier Donald led off the top of the ninth with a double to left field. Cam Cassady hit a ground out, moving Donald over to third base. With two outs, Boonewell Hagy singled to center field, plating Donald, but that was the only run the Maroons would score in the inning, as Roanoke fell 5-2 to Averett University.

Will Black led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-4 on the afternoon. Jacob Clifton, Collier Donald and Boonewell Hagy all finished with one hit each. Kevin Oakey and Hagy each finished with one RBI while Black and Collier Donald had Roanoke's two runs.
