Maroons Drop Single Game To Emory & Henry on Wednesday
EMORY - The Roanoke College baseball team fell in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action to Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon, 8-4. The Maroons now have a record of 4-9, 1-5 in ODAC play, while the Wasps are 8-9, 5-3 in the ODAC.

Emory & Henry struck first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Bransen Christopher hit an RBI double to right center field, scoring Caleb Rotton on the play. The very next batter, Connor Wise hit an RBI single, scoring Christopher from second. The Maroons put their first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Cam Cassady hit a two RBI single with the bases loaded, scoring Will Decker and Jacob Clifton. The Wasps returned the favor in the bottom of the fourth as they put two more runs on the board. After four, Roanoke trailed 4-2.

In the top of the fifth, Jacob Clifton hit a two out single to left field, picking up an RBI by bringing home Will Black. Roanoke was now within one, 4-3 after five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Bransen Christopher hit another double, this time for two RBIs as Jordan Woullard and Brett Johnson scored on the play. In the top of the seventh, Lucas Nowlin hit an RBI single through the left side, scoring Will Black for the second time on the day. After seven innings, Roanoke trailed 6-4.

The Wasps widened the lead once more in the bottom of the eighth, as Christopher had his third RBI hit, plating Hunter Jeffries. Connor Wise hit an RBI single to the opposite side of the field as Christopher, scoring Rotton. The Maroons were unable to close the deficit as Roanoke fell 8-4 in ODAC action.

Will Black, Jacob Clifton, Will Decker and Lucas Nowlin all finished tied for a team-high, two hits in the contest. Black also led the team in runs with two, while Cam Cassady finished with two RBIs. Harrison Richards was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off eight hits in five innings of work.

Bransen Christopher led the Wasps in hitting, going 4-5 on the afternoon with a team high four RBIs. Brett Johnson and Connor Wise each tallied two hits on the afternoon. Matthew McInaw picked up the win, giving up four runs off 10 hits, striking out five batters.

The Maroons return to action on Thursday evening as they take on Ferrum College at English Field on the campus of Virginia Tech. That contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
